Purge

Here's some critiques I've posted on the 2 messageboards I belong to. Most of the people who visit here will have already read these, since they're just cut and pasted.

The Village Good movie. Not Shyamalan’s best, though not his worst... a bit predictable.

Elephant Very, very f-ed up movie. Insanely sad how true it is though. Columbine-inspired, the basic story of pissed off kids. It's Slacker meets Bowling for Columbine. And the homo-erotic scene with the 2 teenage boys in the shower- it's not sexy at all. It's just sad.

Antoine Fisher Rocked me to the core. I definitely need to own this movie. The life I had growing up was very complicated, and very similar to his. I was crying my eyes out. Absolutely incredible.

Cold Mountain I'm amazed at all of the actors I knew! Kathy Baker, Ethan Suplee, Jena Malone, Melora Walters, Giovanni Ribisi, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Donald Sutherland...I had no idea this movie had such a cast! Then again... it was long enough to put half of Hollywood into. Long, yes, but very good. I got goose bumps toward the end.

Collateral Great movie. I really enjoyed it. Why can't more people be like Michael Mann and not Jerry Bruckheimer?

American Splendor and 21 Grams both Superb films

The 1st Spiderman what a waste of time!!!!! It was by far the MOST campy, cheesy, predictable piece of CGI riddled crap I have ever seen. How disappointing.

Oceans 11 with George Clooney. I enjoyed this movie.

Better Off Dead I haven't seen that movie in about 11 years. I WANT MY $2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TWO DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arlington Road It was in the $5.50 bin at Wall-to-Wall mart last week. I haven't seen that movie since the theater. I really like that movie too!! It really has a new meaning to it since 9-11.

Matchstick Men Okay movie. A little predictable, and Melora Walters is in it. But It's pretty good.

About a Boy Cute movie. Hugh Grant has some really funny lines in this- Probably his 2nd best movie IMO. (Next to Bridget Jones's Diary, of course!!)

Thirteen "Kids" for the new millenium. Except the girl doesn't get... ooops... I don't wanna be a spoiler. (A-HEM!!) Yeah- It's depressing. Holly Hunter was really good, but I kept waiting for her to go "TURN TO THE RIGHT!!!!" I would recommend it, though. It's amazing to see what kids are going through these days- in comparison to what we went through as kids.

I want 3 hours of my life back for these next 2:

Win a Date With Tad Hamilton Very teeny-bopper with absolutely no substance whatsoever. I love Topher Grace, but come on!!

Legally Blonde 2 SO not worth it!! I really thought the 1st one was good but the sequel was a pathetic regurgitation of the original.

I've been watching some pretty lame movies lately. But I am just trying to be accomodating to my sister. I have a list of movies I want to see. I walked around BBV with a pen and paper and wrote all of them down, then typed them up in abc order, printed it, and put it in my handbag. Now, there are a few movies on that list that I have reserved for days when my sister stays with me. I try to be accomodating. I don't always watch crap when she's around, but sometimes I do. She doesn't like the same movies that I like (I believe the words used were "Hellboy is AWESOME!" and "You think The Big Lebowski is funny?" )

So... when it comes to movies that I watch when Kate is around, I'm not proud of them. Hence, Win a Date With Tad Hamilton and Legally Blonde 2.

Our latest endeavor: Starsky & Hutch Piece of crap movie- but Snoop was in it... :D and the soundtrack is great- (I've been into disco lately.) Snoop is the best part of the movie. He rules!

The Secretary with James Spader, Maggie Gyllenhall, and Jeremy Northam. What movie was it exaxtly where Spader became the king of soft-core porn?? It was probably RIGHT after Less Than Zero. My guess is Sex Lies and Videotape. The Secretary reminded me a lot of Boxing Helena. Weird movies.

The Suicide Club Is a Japanese movie (subtitled) about this rash of suicides. At first, I thought it was going to be like Heathers. Then it seemed dark and creepy like Strangeland- but not stupid. And the entire nation is fascinated with this teeny-bopper band. It's a very cool movie. Japanese suspense. Who'd've thunk it?

The Human Stain Pretty good. Nicole Kidman was good as a white trash whore for once... and Ed Harris... mmmmm!!!

The Ladykillers Great. VERY Cohen Brothers. "You brought yo bitch to da Waffle Hut??" LMAO

Hope Floats Crap. Horrible pathetic attempt at a romantic comedy. I swear, Heather Graham hasn't done a single thing right since Twin Peaks. Except for Rollergirl.

Radio Good movie.Especially touching when you see the real "Radio" at the end.

Secret Window Very good movie. Surprisingly, Kate called it! I couldn't predict it, even though I'm usually the first one to ruin the ending for everyone.

Lost in Translation is one of my favorite movies. I loved loved loved loved loved loved it. I think you need to watch it more than once to truly appreciate it (and perhaps know someone who appreciates it as well.) I actually think it may have knocked someone out of my top 10.

Dummy Cute little movie with Adrian Brody. Nothing to write home about, but not a bad movie. I have to say I actually had reservations renting it, because on the back it said "This movie recommended for people who like these movies:" and it had a list of movies that I saw and didn't like- Elephant was one of them. But Dummy was cute.

Super Troopers It was funny, but not as funny as I expected it to be.

Amores Perros Everyone should see this movie. It is very well done. A little long, but 3 very gripping stories.

This weekend I went to the movies 3 times. I saw Napoleon Dynamite with my friend Matt. He hadn't seen it yet. He called me as I waited for him at the entrance to the theater, and he swung by the entrance and picked me up. We went to find a parking space and he said "Here- put these in your purse." He handed me 2 small bottles of Jack Daniels, saying "2 for you and 2 for me" and put the other 2 in his pocket. I felt like I was back in high school- it was so much fun. We went and bought the tickets and a large coke each and poured the JD in- we were pretty buzzed by the time the dancing scene came on, which made it so much funnier!!!

I also went yesterday to the theater that's a little cheaper than the other theaters and watched Garden State again. I don't know what it is about that movie that makes me cry so much. I think it's the point where Large's dad says "We will be okay as soon as you forgive yourself for what you've done." It reminds me of the part in Good Will Hunting where Robin Williams keeps saying "It's not your fault..." And the whole "Period/Ellipses" thing at the end of the movie- it's too wonderful.

And Saturday, as usual, Marcio and I went to the theater. It was my week to choose, so I chose Shaun of the Dead It was absolutely hilarious! If you like British comedy and Zombie movies, this is definitely one you shouldn't miss!!

Then I watched a few videos. (I know, I know, but it was a really long boring weekend and I had no homework)I watched Dogville with Nicole Kidman. Pretty interesting movie. Interesting concept to not have a set. I thought it ended really well too.

And I FINALLY saw Coffee and Cigarettes. Not a superb film, but it was interesting. Each story had it's charm, and it's great for people who like music as much as people who like movies. The best scene was "Bill Mother f-in' Murray" with the Wu-Tang Clan. It was pretty funny overall.

1 Comments:

  • Getting drunk at the movies! I'm going to have to remember that. There is a good liquor store right near the movie theater that's near my house, and they sell "airline size" bottles that are easy to hide.
    No Coke for me though.
I'm going to see Shawn (Sean? Shaun? Idunno) of the Dead as soon as I can. Sounds hilarious.
And you can't be The Spoiler--that's my JOB!
